Mountain View Art Guild

July 11th

La'Nelle Gambrell Wilmeth will be teaching an Introduction to Encaustics workshop at the  Mountain View Art Guild through July and the first week in August on Tuesdays. Encaustic art is an ancient hot wax painting method using bees wax and damar resin first used by the Greeks, Romans and later the Egyptians of the Fayum Valley in Egypt. In 1887 hundreds of almost two thousand year old encaustic portraits were found in tombs that had not been looted in antiquity. These encaustics, mummy portraits as they are called, are still to be found in museums around the world today.

With the advent of electric encaustic tools and encaustic medium there is a renewed interest in encaustic art. Class dates are as follows; July 11th, July 18th, July 25th and August 1st. 10:00 to 1:00. Limited to 10 participants. $15.00 per class for Art Guild members but anyone is welcome to join the guild before a class, membership is $20.00 per year. Call 870-746-4146 for more information.

La'Nelle Gambrell, studied studio arts at College of the Desert Arts in Palm Desert, California and graphic design and journalism at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. She also studied privately for two years with the well known Texas sculptor, Ellsworth Handy. As the owner of La'Nelle Gambrell Advertising/Art and later Artemis Film and Graphics, (Corpus Christi, Texas and Houston, Texas) La'Nelle has won numerous awards, including several Best of Show awards for her corporate design, various film/graphic projects and paintings.
