Mountain View Art Guild General Meeting Minutes
March 7, 2016
The meeting was called to order by President Phyllis Haynes. Phyllis announced there will be a Spring Cleaning of the Paintin’ Place on Friday, April 1st to straighten and reorganize the room. Artists need to remove any artwork from the room before the clean-up begins. There will be a Swap/give away/sale ½ hour before our monthly meeting on Monday, April 4th, @ 1:00pm. Artists will price items for sale or mark for give away.

We welcome new member Linda Rollins and returning member Donna Akin.
Program: Gin Brown with the Arkansas Craft School spoke about the purpose of the school and the wide variety of classes offered. She also expressed an interest in a cooperative effort between the Art Guild and Craft School. The Arkansas Craft School is dedicated to providing education, support and inspiration to artisans. The school is a place where people can come and gain knowledge and techniques from other craftspeople in their respective line of work. They offer a wide variety of courses ranging from wood, glass, metal, clay, studio art, as well as sustainable living courses. They are dedicated to equipping each student with the skills necessary to succeed in the craft of their choosing.
Artists who attended Ann Snyder’s classes in February presented their work.
February minutes were read by Janette Wright. Susan Mink moved to accept minutes, second by Peg Hares. Approved
Treasurers Report: Paula Lane reported the beginning checkbook balance, $$$$ and ending balance, $$$$. Paula announced that an anonymous $1,000.00 donation was made to the Art Guild. President Phyllis Haynes challenged other members to make donations to the Guild as well.
In an effort to promote interest in and educate the public of the many offerings of the Art Guild, the MVAG Brochure will be reprinted and posted at various businesses throughout town.

2nd and 4th Monday: Jim Tindall, Painting with Panache. 10-12. $25 class fee +
$2.00 room fee. For an additional $15 Jim will provide all materials for the class.
Friday All Paint: Guild members come together to paint. $2 room fee.
April: Jim Engler, Life Drawing, April 27-29. Jim is Professor Emeritus of Art at Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa. He is a painter, caricaturist and educator. He demonstrates painting and drawing techniques and judge’s art competitions. This workshop will teach basic proportions and the ability to translate figure onto the page quickly and to the point. A vital skill for any artist interested in figure drawing.
Public Art Displays:
Virginia Parsons distributed finalized work calendars to the volunteers working the Ozark Folk Center Cabins. She reminded everyone that it is a privilege to have this venue to display and sell artwork. The Cabins will open on March 29th. Hanging is scheduled for Monday, March 21st, please have your paintings to the cabin by 10am. Remember to have 2 tags on your work. One on the front and one on the back that can be removed to post to the ticket that goes with the deposit. If you volunteer to work 1 day at the Cabins you may display 3 paintings and 2 days, you may display 6 paintings. This year the Cabins will have a featured artist of the month as well as a wall for framed giclee’ artwork. Reminder: Before you leave please, look at the calendar and call the person scheduled to work the following day to remind them they are working.
Joyce Hubbard reported that today was the 1st display of the season at the skillet.
Library, Hospital Display:
Helen Butterfield that everything is going well with art display at these venues.
Mountain High School Annual Art Show:
The MVHS Annual Art Show, Wednesday, March 9th art will be on display in the school library. Jim Tindall will jury. Thursday March 10th, Awards Assembly @ 10:30, where checks and awards presented.
Room Maintenance: Reminder Spring Purge/clean up. April 1st.

Courtesy: Mary Rivers reminds everyone if you know anyone who has been ill or had a death in the family to please let her know so she can send a card. It was mentioned that long time member Margetta Brown’s husband passed away. Mary will send card.
